A celebration of our impact and our vision of wellbeing, independence and opportunity for everyone. This year, we supported 53,049 people across more than 30 programs and services throughout South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which SYC and our employees live and work. We pay our respects to their Ancestors, Ancestral Spirits, and Elders that have gone before us, those Elders still present with us today and the young Elders of the future. We extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples where we live and work.
SYC is committed to honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual relationship with the lands, waters and seas of their Country. We also want to thank and acknowledge our staff who continue to represent their Countries, mobs and ancestors.
SYC believes reconciliation must live in all Australians' hearts, minds and actions as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
A celebration of our impact and our vision of wellbeing, independence and opportunity for everyone. This year, we supported 53,049 people across more than 30 programs and services throughout South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
This year, we helped more than 7,000 people into employment. SYC’s employment initiatives empower people to achieve their career goals and build brighter futures.
We are proud to have been selected as a provider for Inclusive Employment Australia, a new national program replacing Disability Employment Services from November 2025. Designed to create a more inclusive future for people with disability, injury or health conditions, the program places each person’s goals at the centre of support.
Alongside this, our National Inclusion Manager has continued to expand our support to employers, building relationships and strengthening their capacity to recruit, support and retain diverse talent, creating inclusive workplaces and lasting opportunities.
Our Workforce Australia Services contract has been extended through to 2027, allowing us to continue supporting people across South Australia and Victoria. In Queensland, our Workforce Australia Transition to Work team has built a thriving community network, supporting young people to gain employment and engage with study pathways. Our continued success in these areas wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated staff, whose passion and commitment drive positive outcomes every day.
At the heart of this work are the people we support. Their strength, resilience and achievements inspire us and demonstrate the real impact of inclusive, person-centred services.
After more than two years out of the workforce, Ollie came to SYC’s Workforce Australia program ready for change. At 59, he worried that age might make it difficult to find a job, but he remained positive and believed that with the right support, he could return to work.
During his appointments, Ollie worked closely with his Employment Coach, Elise and First Nations Mentor, Thalia, to explore different job options that suited his strengths, lifestyle and goals. They spent time brainstorming opportunities, staying open to new ideas and building Ollie’s confidence. When Elise received a job vacancy for a Delivery Driver role at Coles, she immediately thought of Ollie. He was excited about the opportunity, and together they submitted his application straight away. During his interview visit, the meeting turned into an on-the-spot walk-through, a great sign of things to come.
Ollie was thrilled to be offered the job. With support from Elise and Thalia, he completed every step of the onboarding process, including organising his clearances, providing driving records and completing online inductions. Their guidance helped him feel confident and prepared for his first shift. We’re proud to have been part of Ollie’s journey back into work.

Over the past 12 months, our experienced staff have supported apprentices, trainees and employers to turn opportunities into outcomes, helping people start their careers and businesses build their future workforces.
We are proud to be South Australia’s First Nations Apprenticeship Specialist Provider, creating pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to thrive in apprenticeships.
Alongside this, we supported events including the TAPS Awards of Excellence, TACTIC Expo, ATEC Training Awards and Graduation, Master Builders SA Graduation, Apprentice Employment Network SA Field Officers Conference, GTE Apprenticeships and Traineeships Awards Presentation, PEER Graduation Awards Night and many more, reflecting our commitment to celebrating apprentices and strengthening industry partnerships.
Meet Landon, a First Nations student at Marree Aboriginal School, who has just started his school-based Engineering apprenticeship with Roxby Hydraulics. While completing Year 12, Landon is learning valuable trade skills and gaining hands-on experience that will set him up for long-term success.
Our Apprenticeship Field Officer, Bronwyn, recently visited Marree to support Landon and the Roxby Hydraulics team in setting him up for success. This visit reflects how our team works closely with apprentices, schools and employers to ensure every placement starts strong.
As an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, SYC is proud to support people to build their careers and help local businesses grow through apprenticeships, developing skills, confidence and meaningful career pathways for the future.

Read MoreThrough our Education and Training initiatives, SYC supports students to gain the skills and confidence for meaningful futures. In 2024–25, we supported 2,239 students, including many facing barriers to education and delivered 9,899 hours of learner support.
This year marked the first full year of operation at our Education and Training Hub in Adelaide’s North, a welcoming space offering flexible, hands-on training and personalised support. Enhanced innovation and technology have expanded access for learners in regional areas through our Virtual Training Hub, enabling students to complete accredited training remotely while still receiving direct support from our teams.
We also celebrated one year of the Skills for Education and Employment Program, which has supported more than 90 participants across Berri, Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier to develop foundational language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills, preparing them for further study or employment.
Through our Success and Wellbeing Services, students re-engaged with education, built confidence and developed practical skills for future pathways. Strong partnerships across our programs, including with City of Playford, OTR, employers and community organisations, have connected learners to local employment opportunities.
The achievements of this year are best reflected in our students’ growth, confidence and success.
SYC and the South Australian Housing Trust were recognised as finalists at the 2025 SA Training Awards in the Industry Collaboration category. The nomination highlights the success of our Building Links and Build Your Career programs, which provide nationally recognised training while renovating Housing Trust properties.
Building Links enables secondary school students to complete a Certificate II in Construction Pathways, while Build Your Career supports adults to achieve the South Australian Introduction to Construction Skill Set. Each year, the Housing Trust provides SYC with two properties and building materials for training purposes and connects participants with employment opportunities through its contractor network. SYC delivers high-quality live-works training and assessment, with students carrying out real construction tasks on site. Our Success and Wellbeing Services assist learners by supporting study skills and addressing personal challenges that may affect their training.
“This partnership not only provides students with valuable qualifications and hands-on experience, it creates real change in our communities,” said Stacey Dutschke, Chief Operating Officer, Employment and Education. “It’s a powerful example of what can be achieved when industry, government and education providers work together.”

Read MoreSYC’s justice programs support individuals to make positive choices, restore their lives and connect with the community. We deliver a range of services across South Australia focused on early intervention, diversion and skill development.
This year, we launched Elevate, a youth diversion initiative funded by the Australian Government. Operating across South Australia, Elevate supports young people with low-level involvement in the justice system to make self-directed, positive choices for their future. The program offers consistent support in a safe, inclusive environment, providing practical tools to help participants build confidence, explore options and stay connected to their goals.
SYC’s commitment to collaboration and innovation in youth justice was recognised nationally this year. The organisation contributed to sector knowledge-sharing through presentations including the National Youth Justice Forum and the Department for Correctional Services’ Shaping Correction Forum. Reflecting this leadership, our Youth Justice housing initiative, the Integrated Housing Exits Program, was nominated for the Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award, which honours programs making an impact in reducing crime and violence across Australia.
Our Community Service Order program, funded by the South Australian Department of Human Services, continued to provide young people with the opportunity to meet service requirements while gaining skills for study, employment and independent living. Through initiatives such as Community Meals, participants prepared and delivered 1,198 meals, while Paint Run removed 463 square metres of graffiti. In total, the team supported 1,675 hours of community service, delivering tangible benefits to local communities and empowering young people to build a sense of responsibility, confidence and connection.
Alongside our youth justice programs, SYC’s adult justice initiatives reflect the same commitment to collaboration and community connection. SYC’s Navigator program supports adults exiting custody to reintegrate successfully into the community through strengths-based, collaborative support.
Working alongside 156 participants, Navigator helped 89% connect with community-based supports that improved mental health, wellbeing, employment prospects and housing stability. The team also presented at a Shaping Corrections Regional Working Group Forum, alongside the G4S Reintegration Manager, highlighting their integrated approach to pre- and post-release support at Mount Gambier Prison and sharing success stories that demonstrated how collaboration fosters lasting reintegration outcomes.
During the year, SYC’s Youth Justice Team engaged with criminology students at Flinders University, sharing insights into the experiences of young people involved in the justice system and those facing homelessness.
As guest lecturers for Dr Tess Cunningham’s topic Children, Young People and the Law, Manager of Justice Emily and Practice Lead Nada, provided real-world perspectives to more than 200 students across criminology, law, and psychology.
The session highlighted systemic factors contributing to youth justice involvement, such as poverty and homelessness and emphasised the importance of therapeutic, strengths-based approaches.
This collaboration bridged academic learning with frontline practice, inspiring future professionals and advocating for compassionate, effective engagement with vulnerable young people.
At the National Youth Justice and Child Protection Forum, SYC’s Community Services team joined national leaders, advocates and service providers to sh...

Read MoreSYC’s housing initiatives recognise that secure housing is fundamental to people’s ability to access opportunities for wellbeing and independence. A home provides stability, safety and comfort and a foundation for connection, education and employment.
During 2024–25, construction commenced on SYC’s townhouse development in Ridgehaven, which will provide six architecturally designed homes. This project represents SYC’s most significant housing investment since the 2011 expansion of HYPA Housing, exemplifying our dedication to increasing access to safe, stable, and affordable housing through sustainable, community-oriented solutions.
This year saw the expansion of RentRight SA, with additional funding from the South Australian Government and the Financial Counselling Foundation. This growth enables our team to provide tailored financial counselling for tenants, supporting people to navigate their tenancies amid rising cost-of-living pressures. With more than 10,000 requests for tenancy support and advice, RentRight SA continues to highlight the ongoing rental crisis and its impact on South Australians.
Our Lived Experience Engagement Service (LEES) continues to place lived and living experience at the centre of shaping South Australia’s homelessness responses. Through the Youth Homelessness Lived and Living Experience Project, LEES is working to understand the realities, needs and aspirations of young people aged 16–25 who are experiencing or have experienced homelessness.
Developed in partnership with the Youth Homelessness Strategic Group and the Youth Lived Experience Working Group, the project brings together young people, youth workers and sector leaders to create a more responsive and compassionate service system. This collaborative approach recognises lived experience as essential to service and system improvement, ensuring young people are active partners in designing solutions that work. A final report, due in 2026, will share insights and recommendations to guide advocacy, policy and practice across the sector.
At The Foundry, we help young people recognise their strengths, build supportive connections and gain the confidence to explore new pathways. The Foundry offers access to resources, opportunities and programs that strengthen skills for independent living, housing stability and purposeful employment.
This year, The Foundry secured 12 months of funding through the Perpetual Grant to support the Career Grit program. The initiative offers mentoring and guidance to help young people develop practical skills, explore education and training opportunities and identify their passions and goals, empowering them to pursue meaningful careers.
In celebration of SA Youth Week 2025, young people from The Foundry took part in a Vox Pop project supported by the Department of Human Services and the City of Adelaide. Following an Interviewing Masterclass with Radio Adelaide, young people conducted street interviews to capture public perspectives on celebrating youth. The project helped participants build communication and community engagement skills while giving them a platform to share their voices and experiences with confidence.
The Foundry hosted an exhibition as part of the South Australia Living Artists (SALA) Festival, where young people across SYC programs including The Foundry, Out of Home Care and Youth Justice shared their artistic expression with the wider community. The exhibition generated just over $5,000 in art sales, with each artists receiving the full value of their work. This honoured creativity as a powerful tool for storytelling and connection, affirming the talent and insight each young person brings to our community.
A new partnership between HYPA Housing and the Mark Oliphant College Children’s Centre has brought valuable early-intervention services to young families at HYPA Housing’s Smithfield location. Through this collaboration, families were introduced to Sing & Grow, a music-based program designed to strengthen parent-child relationships and early development through shared musical experiences that encourage connection, confidence and joy in learning together.
Following overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, Sing & Grow was extended to run fortnightly for eight sessions.
“Programs like Sing & Grow create meaningful opportunities for families to connect, learn and feel supported in a welcoming environment,” said Katherine Fiegehen, Manager of Housing Services. “It’s a fantastic example of how partnerships can enhance the wellbeing of our community.”
This initiative highlights the value of collaboration in delivering tailored, impactful support for families and strengthening community connections.

Read MoreSYC is dedicated to providing safe, supportive Out-of-Home-Care for children and young people. Our services, funded by the South Australian Department for Child Protection, encompass both residential and independent programs that are designed to meet the unique and evolving needs of young people in care.
A key strength of SYC’s approach is collaboration across services to deliver wraparound support, particularly between our Specialised Residential Care, Supported Independent Living Services, Stability Post Care, HYPA Housing and Youth Justice programs. This integrated model ensures that young people receive holistic support focused on stability, wellbeing and long-term outcomes. Drawing on this experience, SYC contributed to national conversations on child protection by presenting at the National Child Protection Forum, emphasising the importance of wellbeing, independence and holistic lifelong outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care.
This year, we were proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Weeks Homes, transforming one of our houses through a full interior and exterior makeover. Over several days, the Weeks Homes team repainted common areas, built and installed new furniture, added artwork, hung curtains, planted greenery and created a welcoming outdoor area for relaxation and connection. This project marks the third major partnership between Weeks Homes and SYC.
SYC continues to support young people moving towards independence through the Supported Independent Living Services (SILS) program and Stability Post Care program, delivered in partnership with the Department for Child Protection. These programs are tailored to each participant, with a strong focus on building the life skills required for independent living.
Over 2024–25, the SILS program expanded to include additional support in critical areas such as budgeting, securing brokerage to purchase a car and obtaining a driver’s licence. A focus on education and training has been identified as the key component for SILS participants to access pathways to employment and housing.
This focus has resulted in a 17-year-old in SYC’s SILS program nearing completion of a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care). They have secured a 120-hour work placement and are excited about the opportunity, a significant step after overcoming years of instability and personal challenge. With consistent support from their SILS Support Worker, they rebuilt confidence, re-engaged in education and gained their driver’s licence. This story reflects the impact of structured, therapeutic support in helping young people develop resilience, independence and a vision for their future.

At SYC, our impact begins with our people. Every achievement is made possible through the commitment, care and collaboration of our staff, volunteers, students and partners. Together, we continue to build an organisation grounded in respect, inclusion and social responsibility.
Passionate, values-driven and united by a belief in people and their potential, our team brings dedication, expertise and care to everything they do. In 2024–25, we celebrated forty-two staff for their service, with milestones ranging from five to twenty-five years. These achievements represent thousands of hours spent supporting students, mentoring clients, helping job seekers and apprentices, assisting people in crisis and building connected communities.
Beni, a 2024 service award recipient, reflected: “The best part of my role is my team. We all share the same passion for making a positive impact.” Maddi, a Youth Justice Volunteer, shared: “I was instantly drawn to SYC and everything it stands for. My volunteering role helps me grow both as a person and as a worker, and it has allowed me to challenge myself knowing I have a strong support system. I look forward to volunteering each week alongside people who are passionate, driven and truly believe in what they do.”

What truly sets Jacqui apart is her ability to transform the role of internal audit within the organisation. She not only expanded the function beyond ISO 9001 standards but also redefined its purpose, turning it into a proactive, collaborative tool for continuous improvement rather than a compliance checklist. By building strong relationships and fostering open communication, Jacqui has made audits more accessible, shifting perceptions and embedding them as a key part of SYC’s culture.
Her strategic approach to audit, assurance, and system development has been crucial in maintaining SYC’s vital certifications and accreditation standards. Over the past 16 years, she has built an outstanding career, ultimately progressing to Head of Finance. This year, SYC proudly launched its 2024–2026 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing reconciliation journey. The plan features Moondani, a new artwork created by esteemed Wurundjeri/Yorta-Yorta artist Simone Thomson, symbolising connection and forward movement.
Over the next two years, the Innovate RAP will guide our efforts to deepen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to pilot strategies that lay the groundwork for future commitments.
This is SYC’s second Reconciliation Action Plan, following the successful implementation of our Reflect RAP in 2022. Guided by Reconciliation Australia’s framework, which emphasises relationships, respect and opportunities, we continue to embed reconciliation across our organisation.
Throughout the year, our teams participated in events that recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements, including National Apology Day, Close the Gap Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week. These occasions foster learning, reflection and dialogue across our organisation and communities.
As part of our broader reconciliation initiatives, SYC continued to deliver programs that empower First Nations communities through culturally safe employment pathways. The Start Your Deadly Career program, delivered in partnership with Mob Jobs, supported participants through a three-week experience combining cultural connection with career development.
SYC also partnered with IntoJobs to deliver Start Your Climb, a culturally responsive pre-employment program for First Nations participants in the Murray and South East region. This two-week initiative supported individuals to build confidence, overcome employment barriers and strengthen cultural identity within a safe and supportive environment.
Both programs reflect our commitment to delivering place-based, community-led solutions that create lasting impact.
