SYC’s ongoing partnership with our valued charity partner, Weeks Homes, has recently transformed one of our SRC Houses for children and young people. Through their efforts, the Weeks Homes team has created a warm, fun, and welcoming environment that provides different spaces for the young people to spend time in, including study spaces, an updated dining area and lounge.
SYC’s SRC (Specialised Residential Care) program provides a therapeutic residential care program for children and young people under Guardianship of the Chief Executive of the Department for Child Protection. This house, in particular, is home to four young people, ranging in age.
The transformation involved a complete interior and exterior makeover, including a revitalised backyard. Over the course of several days, Weeks Homes repainted the common areas, built and installed new furniture, added artwork, hung curtains, planted greenery, and created a welcoming outdoor area for relaxation and connection.
20 staff members from Weeks Homes generously volunteered their time to help bring the project to life—assembling furniture, painting, hanging art, and planting.
“To see all the kids’ faces and see the way they will react when they see everything, it makes everything worthwhile.” - Sam, Weeks Homes
With a generous donation of $24,000 and the hands-on support of 20 dedicated Weeks Homes staff, this project became a true community effort. The updated home offers a safe, calming, and engaging environment that supports the wellbeing and development of the young people who live there.
This project marks the third major partnership between Weeks Homes and SYC. In December 2022, Weeks Homes generously donated $42,000 worth of equipment and supplies, which transformed an empty car park into a children's playground and parent social area at another one of our independent housing locations.
Mark Hoffman-Davis, CEO of SYC, expressed our organisation’s gratitude, stating, “We are incredibly grateful to Weeks Homes for their generosity, commitment, and shared values. Their donation and the hands-on contribution of their staff have not only transformed a house, but helped create a true sense of home for the young people who live there. This project is an example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a common purpose.”
SYC would like to thank Weeks Homes and all the suppliers who made this project possible. This includes Fisher & Paykel Appliances, Carpet Call AU, Taubmans by PPG, CBS Bins and Backpack 4 SA Kids. We would also like to thank our staff at SYC, who worked tirelessly on this project to see it come to life.
“We feel really lucky and grateful. We don’t often have the budget to do these types of things for the young people. For the young people to come home to a beautiful home, it’s amazing” – Felicia, Out of Home Care Manager SYC.
