Checking In and Connecting: R U OK? Day at SYC

news_img

At SYC, connection is at the heart of everything we do and R U OK? Day 2025 was a reminder of how powerful a simple check-in can be.

Throughout the organisation, our teams took time to pause, connect and support one another, finding creative ways to start conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

In Mt Gambier, a “Let’s taco ‘bout it” Mexican lunch brought laughter and honest chats around the table. At Strathpine, the team and participants created a colourful mural asking, “What’s something you do to look after your mental health?”, a reminder that these conversations continue well beyond the day itself.

The Kent Town site came together for a BBQ, while Murray Bridge teams led thoughtful discussions about what we’re like at our best and worst, and how we can support each other through both.

Each activity reflected SYC’s belief that care and connection matter every day, not just on R U OK? Day. It’s this same belief that guides our work with participants and shapes how we support our teams.

To help keep these conversations going, SYC offers staff a free and confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP), providing up to six sessions per year with a qualified counsellor for staff and volunteers.

Thank you to everyone at Team SYC who made R U OK? Day a meaningful celebration of connection and care.
