Inspiring the Next Generation of Tradeswomen

news_img

Last week, SYC had the privilege of speaking with 18 Year 9 and 10 female students from Grant High School at Jubilee Sawmill in Mount Gambier.

Together with OneFortyOne and Empowered Women in Trades, the day gave students the chance to step beyond the sawmill gates, explore career pathways in trades, and gain hands-on experience in engineering and electrical trades.

Throughout the day, students collaborated on practical challenges, applied critical thinking to solve problems, and showed resilience and adaptability when trying new tasks outside their comfort zones.

They also explored apprenticeship pathways and discovered how SYC supports young people to turn their career ambitions into reality. Our Apprenticeships Field Operations Manager, Julie, shared how SYC helps students find apprenticeships, navigate the application process, and succeed in the workplace through guidance, mentoring, and practical support.

“It was amazing to see these students trying trades for the first time. Some of these women could be our future apprentices!”

A huge thank you to everyone involved. It was fantastic to see so much energy and excitement about the opportunities ahead.

SYC is proud to support young people to explore new career pathways and build skills for meaningful futures. If you would like to learn more about our Australian Apprenticeship Support Services, click here.
