Transforming Lives Through Alternative Learning

At SYC, we’re dedicated to empowering young people through Alternative Learning services, helping them re-engage with their education and transition into further studies or meaningful employment. Two of our vibrant learning environments—Studio East in Adelaide’s East and the Education and Training Hub in Adelaide’s North —provide students with the essential support and resources to thrive.

We’re thrilled to share some incredible achievements that showcase the remarkable progress of our students!

One student recently celebrated a major milestone at Studio East by completing their journey with us. Despite facing challenges like inconsistent attendance, mental health issues and housing instability, this student exited the program equipped with the skills for successful independence. They earned an impressive trio of qualifications: a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, a Certificate II in Food Processing, and a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations. With the support of the Flexible Learning Options (FLO) team, they successfully completed their education, secured stable employment using their new qualifications, achieved housing stability, and connected with ongoing mental health services. These accomplishments mark a significant step towards a brighter future.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide’s North at SYC’s Education and Training Hub, our dedicated training and assessment teams have been busy helping students reach their learning goals.Equipped with modern technology, private case management rooms and advanced training spaces, this facility offers students an immersive learning environment.

At the Northern Jobs Expo, two recent graduates of our Barista Accreditation Short Course (RTO Code: 40053) showcased their newly acquired barista skills at the Playford Civic Centre Café. During this experience, they gained valuable practice, taking orders and serving coffee to attendees. Their hard work paid off, earning them incredible feedback and job offers on the spot!

These inspiring stories highlight the transformative power of our Alternative Learning and Flexible Learning Options (FLO) programs.
Funded by the South Australian Department for Education, our Flexible Learning Options program supports students in completing their education and overcoming barriers through weekly case management. FLO is free for participants referred to the program through their secondary or high school enrolment.
