For Brooke, the most rewarding part of her role is seeing young people find stability, connection and a place to call home.

SYC’s HYPA Housing (Independent Housing Solutions) program was developed in response to the challenges many young people face when accessing safe and affordable housing.

The program supports young people aged 17 to 25 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness by providing safe and affordable semi-supportive housing while they work towards independent living.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the joy a young person feels when they’re accepted into the HYPA Housing program and know they have a safe and stable place to call home,” Brooke said.
“Words can’t describe what it means to walk alongside our tenants as they find stability and flourish.”

Brooke’s dedication to supporting young people has recently been recognised, with her being named a finalist in the Inspirational Team Member category at the 2026 CHIA SA Excellence in Community Housing Awards.

The award celebrates Brooke’s passion for creating positive outcomes for young people and the impact she continues to make through her work with HYPA Housing.

Since joining the team, Brooke has been committed to creating welcoming environments where tenants feel supported, connected and valued. One initiative she is particularly proud of is the creation of community murals across SYC’s HYPA homes.

Working alongside volunteer artists, Brooke helped bring shared spaces to life through a collaborative artwork project, with tenants, their children and staff contributing handprints to form the leaves of colourful trees.

The murals have not only brightened common areas but also created a lasting reminder of the people who have been part of the HYPA Housing community.

“It has really brightened our common rooms and has been a fun and unique way to welcome new tenants and staff,” Brooke said.
“It has provided a beautiful way for everyone connected to the HYPA Housing program to leave their mark.”

Through her work, Brooke continues to build meaningful relationships, foster a sense of belonging and support young people as they take positive steps towards a brighter future.

Congratulations, Brooke, on this well-deserved recognition. We’re proud to celebrate your achievements and wish you all the best for the 2026 CHIA SA Excellence in Community Housing Awards.
