Earlier this week, SYC hosted Careers Without Limits, a First Nations Careers and Employment Pathways Showcase held on Kaurna Country.
The culturally grounded event was created exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers and school leavers, bringing together employers, industry representatives, government agencies, Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations and training providers to explore pathways into employment, traineeships, apprenticeships and further education.
With 40 exhibitors representing a range of industries and more than 130 registered attendees, the showcase welcomed participants from schools, universities, employment services providers and communities across Adelaide.
The day focused on creating meaningful opportunities for connection, learning and conversation in a culturally safe and inclusive environment.
Exhibitors began the morning with an engaging and educational session facilitated by Renee Andrew from Ararru Yakka, supporting a deeper understanding of cultural capability and inclusion in the workplace. The event also included a Welcome to Country from Kuma Kaaru and entertainment throughout the day from DJ, music producer and songwriter SVVLO.
Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with organisations to learn more about career pathways, employment opportunities and future possibilities across a range of sectors.
SYC’s First Nations Apprenticeships team connected with both attendees and employers throughout the day, promoting apprenticeship and traineeship pathways across traditional trades and emerging industries. As a First Nations Specialist Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, the team supports First Nations apprentices through culturally responsive, holistic services that extend beyond the workplace. This includes mentoring from experienced First Nations staff, working closely with families and communities, fostering connections with First Nations organisations, and helping participants access opportunities with employers committed to creating meaningful pathways and contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes.
SYC’s Aboriginal Employment Mentor team was also present throughout the showcase, supporting participants to explore career options, strengthen their confidence and connect with employers, training providers and opportunities aligned with their goals.
The event concluded with networking and further discussions among exhibitors and partners, encouraging ongoing collaboration and engagement beyond the showcase.
SYC thanks all exhibitors, attendees, partners and contributors who helped make Careers Without Limits a welcoming and successful event. Special thanks also to Ochre Dawn for providing apparel packs for the lucky door prize winners, and Inchim Anyany for supplying the thank you gifts shared on the day.
