Carter Street development takes shape in Ridgehaven

SYC’s Carter Street development in Ridgehaven is taking shape, marking an important step in increasing access to safe and affordable housing in South Australia.

Located in Adelaide’s north-east, the development will deliver six architecturally designed homes that will be retained and managed by SYC. It is our most significant housing investment since the expansion of our HYPA Housing initiative in 2011 and reflects our continued focus on creating more stable housing options for the community.

What was once a single residential block is being transformed into six modern homes, increasing housing supply and making better use of the land. For the community, this means more opportunities for people to access secure housing close to services and support.

SYC’s Chief Financial Officer, Simon Matthews, said the housing shortage in South Australia and nationally requires input from both government and non-government organisations.

“This development is our first in 15 years after the construction of social housing in Munno Para in 2011, so it is really rewarding that we are building again and playing our role in helping South Australians access safe and quality housing in an area that offers an abundance of retail, transport and infrastructure.”

With key structural elements now in place, the project is moving into the next phase of construction, bringing it closer to completion.

We know that a safe, secure home is essential for independence and wellbeing. By providing more homes, we’re helping create more pathways for people to find stability and build their future.

The development is expected to be completed in September 2026.
