Frequently asked questions

What are school-based apprenticeships?

Australian School-based Apprenticeships offer young Australians an excellent career pathway, enabling them to begin training for a vocational qualification while earning a wage and completing their secondary education. An Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) is a part-time Australian Apprenticeship that you can undertake while still in school. It offers hands-on industry experience and allows you to work towards or complete a nationally recognised qualification while earning your secondary school certificate.

An Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) combines secondary school coursework, paid employment, and both on-the-job and off-the-job vocational training. You can pursue training in a traditional trade or other occupations at the Certificate or Diploma level. ASbA apprentices must arrange time-release from their school subjects to participate in work and training. The required weekly employment hours for ASbA apprentices vary across different States and Territories.
