We’re proud to have sponsored last Friday’s MTA 2024 Automotive Awards and Graduation Ceremony, an event celebrating the finest young talents in the automotive industry.
Scott Whitmore, National Partnerships Manager; Andrew Gardiner, General Manager - Employment Services; Lisa Cama, Field Operations Manager; and Bernie Crafter, Apprenticeship Field Officer, represented SYC at the event. Andrew Gardiner had the honour of presenting Ashanyia Smith with the award for Most Outstanding First-Year Apprentice, recognising her exceptional dedication and achievements.
At SYC, we are committed to supporting apprentices to succeed through our dedicated services in South Australia, Victoria, and Queensland. Our goal is to provide apprentices with the guidance and resources they need to excel in their careers. By partnering with industry leaders and participating in events like the MTA Automotive Awards, we are proud to help shape a skilled and innovative workforce for the future.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of trade skills and continuous learning, crucial in an era where electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids are transforming the automotive landscape. MTA SA/NT CEO Darrell Jacobs underscored the need for skilled apprentices, stating, "The rapid growth of EVs and hybrids, which now make up a quarter of new car sales, shows the need for skilled apprentices. By equipping apprentices like Eli Moss (2024 Apprentice of the Year) to work with the latest technology, skills, and knowledge, we prepare them to become leaders in the industry."
Blair Boyer MP, Minister for Education, Training, and Skills, who presented the graduating certificates, added, "The work that the MTA does and the jobs that are available in automotive are a fantastic example for young people."
The event was supported by various organisations, including Spirit Super, Mas National, RAA, myenergi APAC, Gates Corporation, Capricorn Society, ADAS Solutions Australia, Axalta ANZ – Australia & New Zealand, PPG Automotive Refinish Coatings, the Department for Education (South Australia), DeBeer Refinish (Sherwin-Williams), District Council of Cleve, and Apprenticeship Support Australia.
