Ollie’s Employment Journey

news_img

After more than two years out of the workforce, Ollie came to SYC’s Workforce Australia program ready for a change. At 59, he felt that his age might make it difficult to find a job but he remained positive and believed that with the right support, he could get back into work.

During his appointments, Ollie worked closely with his Employment Coach Elise and First Nations Mentor Thalia to explore different job options that would suit his strengths, lifestyle and goals. They spent time brainstorming opportunities, staying open to new ideas and building Ollie’s confidence.

When Elise received a job vacancy for a Delivery Driver role at Coles, she immediately thought of Ollie. He was excited about the opportunity and they submitted his application straight away. He was offered an interview and during his visit to the store, the interview turned into an on-the-spot walk-through, a great sign of what was to come.

Ollie was thrilled to be offered the job. With support from Elise and Thalia, he completed every step of the onboarding process, including organising his clearances, providing driving records and working through online inductions. Their guidance helped him feel confident and prepared for his first shift.

SYC's Workforce Australia Program supports people to overcome barriers, build confidence, and find meaningful employment. We’re so proud to have been part of Ollie’s journey back into work.
