Lucy leads The Foundry by SYC, SYC's purpose-built youth skills hub in the Adelaide CBD. Since opening in 2021, The Foundry has provided a safe and inclusive space where young people can learn, create, connect and access practical support. From essential amenities to wellbeing and employment programs, the hub responds to immediate needs while helping young people plan their next steps.
Through a range of services, programs and activities, Lucy and her team walk alongside young people as they navigate challenges and work towards their goals. That might mean finding accommodation, connecting with specialist services, or simply having someone to talk things through with.
Many young people who access The Foundry have experienced homelessness, family violence, involvement with the justice system, mental health challenges or are living with disability. Some arrive in crisis, seeking food or a safe place to land. They return because of the relationships they build and the genuine sense of safety and belonging they find, support that gives them the confidence to move forward.
For Lucy, it is the relationships that matter most.
“I love that I get to spend every day connecting, creating and innovating with the young people who walk through our doors. My role at The Foundry allows me the freedom to walk alongside their journey into adulthood, with all the highs and lows that come with it. It is such a privilege that these young people allow me to be part of the process, whatever that looks like for them.”
Lucy has seen The Foundry grow from its early days into what it is today.
“I am really proud to have been part of The Foundry’s growth and development since its inception, from kick-starting the Career Grit program to growing our annual SALA exhibition, both of which have made a lasting impact on the young people involved.”
Now, as Team Leader, Lucy works alongside a committed team of staff and volunteers who share a clear focus: supporting young people to feel heard, supported and equipped to move forward.
