Zac’s journey with Transition to Work

At SYC, we know that meaningful employment can change a young person’s future, and the right support at the right time can make all the difference. Zac, one of our Workforce Australia – Transition to Work participants, shows what is possible when determination meets opportunity.

Zac first came to SYC motivated and determined to find stable employment. From the start, he showed a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. When an employment opportunity with Norweld became available, the team knew Zac would be the perfect fit. His confidence and natural country charm made an immediate impression and he successfully secured the role.

Just as things were coming together, Zac faced a major challenge when his living situation unexpectedly changed just days before starting his new job. Despite this setback, he showed remarkable resilience. He arrived for his first day of work prepared and determined not to let his circumstances hold him back.

When the SYC team learned he did not have safe and stable housing, they acted quickly to put support in place. Temporary accommodation was arranged so that Zac could continue working while having a safe place to stay. The team also supported him to secure an intake interview with Brisbane Youth Service, which offers a range of housing and support programs for young people experiencing homelessness or housing challenges.

Throughout his journey, Zac has continued to impress everyone around him. Norweld shared how much they appreciate his attitude and contribution, describing him as a “breath of fresh air” who brings positivity and is willing to take on any task.

Zac has also made a strong impression on his Youth Employment Coach, Tanika.

“I honestly cannot put into words how much of an impact this young person has made on me and taught me in such a short amount of time. He has shown me how far a positive attitude can take you.”

This outcome reflects the impact of our program, the support of Brisbane Youth Service, and a welcoming employer in Norweld. Most of all, it reflects Zac’s courage, resilience and commitment to building a better future. We are incredibly proud of everything he has achieved.
