SYC and Workabout, a Department for Education program, recently welcomed students, employers, educators and community organisations to the second Next Steps Aboriginal Youth Expo, creating a space where young people could explore what their future could look like beyond the classroom.

Designed to connect Aboriginal students with opportunities in employment, education and training, the expo brought together more than 55 organisations from a diverse range of industries. Students had the chance to speak directly with employers, training providers, universities and government services, gaining first-hand insights into career pathways, further study options and the skills needed to achieve their goals.

Throughout the morning, students engaged in meaningful conversations, gathered information and resources, and explored opportunities that aligned with their interests. The event also featured a range of raffle prizes generously donated by participating organisations, including Woolworths vouchers, EcoDynamics gift boxes, and a signed Melbourne Football Club football and guernsey from Beyond Bank.

Scott Whitmore, National Partnerships Manager at SYC, said the expo was about helping young people see the possibilities available to them and build confidence in taking their next steps.

"When young people can connect directly with employers, educators and industry professionals, it helps bring future opportunities to life. The Next Steps Aboriginal Youth Expo is about creating those connections, broadening horizons and ensuring Aboriginal students have access to the information, support and networks they need to make informed decisions about their future."

The success of this year's event highlights the importance of bringing education, industry and community together to support Aboriginal young people as they navigate life after school. By providing access to valuable information and a variety of opportunities, the expo continues to empower students to pursue pathways that reflect their strengths, interests and ambitions.
