Celebrating Skills and Pathways During National Skills Week

This week, SYC is proud to celebrate National Skills Week, an initiative that recognises the value of practical skills and vocational learning in shaping a modern, successful economy. The week aims to raise awareness of the diverse training and career opportunities available through Vocational Education and Training (VET), and to promote the importance of trades and skills across all sectors of society.

At SYC, we are proud to deliver accredited training that equips individuals with the tools they need to thrive in the workforce. National Skills Week is a perfect opportunity to shine a light on the achievements of our students and the pathways available through hands-on, skills-based learning.

One recent highlight is the successful delivery of the Cook.Move.Grow Program, delivered in partnership with the Local Jobs Program, APM Employment Services, City of Playford and Adelaide United Football Club.

This initiative supported a group of students, referred by APM, through a comprehensive training journey focused on hospitality and wellbeing. The program covered Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), nutrition, food safety supervision and practical kitchen experience. These essential skills support employability and promote confidence and personal growth.

As part of the program, students had the opportunity to apply their hospitality training in a real-world setting by preparing and serving lunch at Adelaide United’s official training facility. This was followed by a group fitness session with the players, offering a unique and engaging experience outside the classroom.

SYC is proud to contribute to the vision of National Skills Week by creating opportunities that lead to real, meaningful employment pathways. This program is an example of how practical training can open doors, build confidence, and empower individuals to succeed.
