Building Confidence through the SEE program: Anita’s Story

When Anita joined SYC’s Skills for Education & Employment (SEE) Program, she wanted to improve her language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills and build the confidence to undertake further study towards a career in the leisure and health industry.

It had been more than 40 years since Anita last studied, and returning to a learning environment came with understandable nerves. She had little experience using computers and felt anxious about digital learning.

“Before enrolling in the SEE Program, I had little knowledge of how to navigate computers or any digital device. Initially, I would have been content to learn the basics of creating and attaching a document to an email. I never thought that I'd be where I am now. Not only has the SEE Program provided me with new skills, but I have also had the chance to improve on skills I already had (even though I hadn’t used them in, like, forever)”. – Anita

Through her time in the program, Anita has shown determination and a genuine commitment to learning. She has developed strong digital literacy skills and now confidently uses computers, Microsoft software, and online platforms.

Beyond her technical growth, Anita has gained confidence in her abilities and a renewed enthusiasm for learning. Her peers and SEE Trainer/Assessor have recognised her for her positivity, teamwork and support of others in the classroom.

“I still have more to learn, but I am much more confident about tackling new things. My math is improving, and I feel more confident about taking on tasks. The support of the SEE program has made this huge step possible. After being out of touch with the study/workplace environment, the friendships and class dynamic have given me a new perspective on learning, and I believe I have more to offer.”

Anita’s journey to date has been remarkable. She has worked hard to develop the skills and knowledge required to meet English language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) entry-level requirements for the Certificate IV in Leisure and Health. Anita has now successfully enrolled and commenced further study, while continuing her participation in the SEE Program to keep building her skills and confidence.

“I have enrolled in my Cert IV in Leisure and Health, which I did not have the confidence to attempt unsupported before. I look forward to continuing to grow personally and professionally while being part of the SEE Program, and I am excited about my future.”

Anita’s progress is a powerful example of how the SEE Program supports people to build confidence, learn new skills and take the next step toward meaningful education and employment. Congratulations, Anita. We’re so proud to celebrate your achievements and look forward to seeing what you do next.
