SYC is a Skills SA approved CSPA interpretation services, UAN Mentoring, Foundation Skills Bridging Units and Tutoring services provider.

Foundation Skills Bridging Units and Tutoring are programs set up by Skills SA to ensure that learners receive targeted supports in Language, Literacy, and Numeracy, to ensure they have the best chance to successfully complete their qualification.

These supports are identified during the Upfront Assessment of Needs process, which every RTO must undertake as part of the requirements for subsidised training in South Australia.

Bridging Units and Tutoring Services Access

All learners seeking access to subsidised training must undertake and complete the UAN. As part of this process they must complete the CSPA assessments to determine ACSF exit levels. Where exit levels are not met, the CSPA Interpretations may recommend Foundation Skills Bridging Units or Tutoring supports. Accessing and completing these required supports then becomes a condition for the learner to access subsidised training with their primary RTO.

Foundation Skills Tutoring

Tutoring is a non-accredited program designed to bridge small gaps in Language, Literacy, and Numeracy, with contextualised support for learners based on the qualification they are studying. Tutoring is often completed in one-on-one or small group settings to support each learner with specific needs.

  • Tutors can help learners develop the necessary skills to bridge smaller gaps in LLN
  • They assist learners in applying these skills to their specific course of study.
  • There are no limits on the number of hours of support provided, with the amount varying based on individual needs.

Foundation Skills Bridging Units

Foundation Skills Bridging Units is an accredited training program that learners may be required to complete based on their CSPA Interpretation results. Bridging Units are used to support learners with larger gaps in Language, Literacy, and Numeracy, where Tutoring would not be appropriate. Based on the required units from a CSPA Interpretation, our Foundation Skills trainers then provide the training and assessment to learners for those units. Passing their Bridging Units is a requirement for learners to access subsidised training. Your primary training organisation will inform you if you need to complete these units

  • Bridging units are extra learning to make sure you don’t fall behind - filling any gaps in your knowledge or skills.
  • You can access up to five subsidised bridging units for each subsidised course if you are assessed to need them.

CSPA Interpretation Reports

The CSPA interpretation report is a process prescribed by Skills SA, which relies on a LLN Specialist to review and interpret CSPA assessment results and provide recommendations on support mechanisms for students. The aim of the process is to ensure that VET students receive tailored learning support to maximise their potential to succeed in their qualifications.

  • up to 5 FSK bridging units / an FSK course if the learner needs more than 5 bridging units
  • training provider’s in-house literacy and numeracy support
  • non-accredited funded foundation skills tutoring support

UAN Mentoring

UAN Mentors provide expert, peer-to-peer support to training providers to prepare for and embed the UAN into pre-enrolment processes. The UAN Mentor service is delivered by experienced personnel who work in a registered training organisation and conduct the UAN with their own learners.

This service is directly funded by Skills SA and is available to training providers who have applied for or have a current FAA with Skills SA. The UAN Mentor service assists new FAA holders with training and preparing their staff, support whilst UAN is conducted for the first time with learners, understanding UAN Guidelines, using resources and problem-solving during implementation.

Ongoing access to the UAN mentor service is available to all training providers when needed.
