Congratulations Hannah! Building confidence through Foundation Skills

A huge congratulations to Hannah on successfully completing her Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways.

For Hannah, completing the qualification is more than a certificate. It represents growing confidence, greater independence and an important step towards her future goals.

Foundation Skills help people build the core skills, knowledge and confidence that support participation in further education, training, work and everyday life. Through SYC, participants can receive targeted support in language, literacy and numeracy, helping them build the skills and confidence to successfully complete their qualification.

Hannah was referred to SYC for a Foundation Skills course after her primary Registered Training Organisation (RTO) identified areas of her skills that could be further developed before she completed her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

With an exemption from Skills SA, Hannah completed the full FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways through SYC, with flexible delivery to support her learning needs.

When Hannah first came to SYC, she was very nervous. As she became more comfortable with the training process and more independent in her learning, her confidence grew.

SYC Trainer and Assessor, Cherie, worked alongside Hannah each week to support her learning and confidence.

Hannah has now successfully completed all 11 units of the qualification, covering core skills including learning, reading, writing, numeracy and digital literacy.

Her favourite parts of training have been setting goals and developing her digital literacy skills.

Reflecting on her experience, Hannah shared:

“I am proud of my own personal growth and have more confidence. I loved everything.”

Hannah is now looking ahead to her next goals, including completing her film studies course, finding some casual work, possibly in a coffee shop, and exploring further study so she can support other people living with disability.

Hannah’s journey shows how flexible and accessible training can support people to build confidence, develop new skills and take the next steps towards their goals.
