Paul Edginton has been awarded SYC’s 2017 Lifetime Supporter Award for his longstanding commitment to the organisation and his dedication to improving the lives of people in need.
The presentation was made at the HYPA Boileau Gala Quiz night by Chair of the Board, David Hallett. Mr Hallett has seen first hand the positive impact Paul has made to SYC as CEO since 2004.
“Under Paul’s leadership the organisation has grown from 100 plus employees to 600 plus employees, it’s gone from six or seven offices to 50 plus offices nationally.
“The most significant thing is that the number of people SYC helps has now grown to more than 60,000 people a year.
“He’s an outstanding leader and we’re very proud to have him as the CEO of SYC,” Mr Hallett said.
Paul became CEO of SYC in 2004. He has always held the strong vision to grow the organisation in capacity, scale and location across multiple fields to become a leading contributor in the not-for-profit sector. Senator David Fawcett has worked closely with Paul over the years and said he works strategically at a policy and program level to adapt and expand services to achieve exceptional outcomes. “The normal structures of policies that would constrain many organisations, Paul thinks outside of that. He looks for the strengths that people have and the opportunities to grow them. “He’s hard headed and he is a businessman, he runs SYC like a business, but at the same time he has great compassion and his approach is all about people, not programs,” Senator Fawcett said. Paul is overwhelmed by the accolade and attributes his success to the dedicated team working alongside him and his passion for empowering young people to become independent and lead a prosperous life. “When I started as CEO in 2004, SYC was helping 2000 young people who were experiencing or at risk of homelessness; that number has grown in the last 15 years – it shows that despite the growth at SYC we have so much still to do to help people of all ages to achieve their best. “It’s an absolute privilege and honor to receive this award, I’m extremely passionate about the work we do and the people we help, I’m looking forward to continuing this journey and am excited by what the future will bring for SYC,” Paul said.
