Jonah is now 7 months into a retail traineeship thanks to the HYPA Transition to Work (TtW) program.

Our Gawler team was able to secure a customer service position at the local Newsagency. Tiffany from the HYPA TtW team said Jonah was a standout candidate. He had excellent attendance and a great attitude in all of his activities with HYPA.

Tiffany offered business owner, Barry, the opportunity to place a young jobseeker into a 12-week internship. He then had the option to employ that person if the placement went well.

“Using the advice and knowledge Jonah received from the TtW program he was able to secure his 3 month introduction to work in the busy Murray Street business in Gawler after a successful interview,” Tiffany said.

“Jonah impressed Barry with his strong work ethic and positive attitude so much throughout the internship. He even started as an official staff member two weeks before the placement was due to finish!” she said.

Both Jonah and Barry agree that initiatives like TtW provide a great platform for both job seekers and employers to get a fantastic outcome. Jonah is now looking right at home behind the counter at work – but also enjoys moving about the store to keep things in order and assist customers.

The team is very proud of Jonah’s commitment and positivity during his time with HYPA. He has certainly taken this attitude with him into employment. Tiffany said she is also grateful to have ‘superstar business-owners’ like Barry on board. They are the ones who provide opportunities for local young people to gain experience and reach their potential.

So, if you’re ever in the area why not pop in to Gawler Newsagency grab a paper, birthday card or even a lottery ticket. Visit Barry, Jonah or any of the friendly staff and support a local business that supports local young people.
