HYPA helps Cheyanne Transition to Work
16 Sep 2016
Earlier this year HYPA started delivering employment services in northern Adelaide through the Transition to Work (TtW) initiative, where young people aged between 15 and 21 years receive a high level of support to develop and increase their employability skills through coaching and mentoring.
One of our very first clients, Cheyanne was finding it extremely difficult to get a job which in turn had a negative affect on her confidence. She had been out of work for nearly a year and was experiencing an unstable home life.
At her first appointment she impressed the TtW team with her presentation and attitude. After working with the team for several months, her confidence increased and she secured employment with Spotlight Munno Para after an interview brokered through the program.
Store manager Fiona said that Cheyanne has fitted in really well with the team and is never afraid to ask questions, which is something the TtW team strongly encourage.
Cheyanne has been working at Spotlight for 4 months now and her duties include customer service, cash handling, filling and tidying shelves and displaying stock.
She said she was very grateful to have been referred to HYPA’s TtW program as it has changed her life and she is now motivated to learn and grow in her new role, and is even thinking about progressing into a management role in the future.
“I thought I was alone in trying to get a job, but TtW gave me so much support and helped me get to where I am now. I don’t think I’d have a job without them.
“To have a job has made me a much happier and more active person. I am so much more motivated about life and always want to be doing things. Now I get up at 7am instead of 2pm and I’m getting so much more done,” she said.
The TtW team will continue to support her through these crucial early months of her new found employment, but it seems she is well on her way to complete independence and developing a great work /life balance in the process.
