On Friday 14 October HYPA held an Amazing Race with support from Access Pay, a free school holiday event for the young people accessing HYPA services, supporting them in continuing to build essential employability skills.

Six Access Pay employees utilised their annual volunteer day to lead our teams on a series of challenges throughout Adelaide’s CBD. This included promoting sausage tastings at the Adelaide Central Markets at The Gourmet Sausage Shop, reading a news announcement at Fresh 92.7 and completing fitness challenges with Pushing Performance, to name just a few activities.

Five teams in total raced around the CBD with the support of six Access Pay volunteers. The day was held to encourage participating young people to get outside their comfort zones and increase their confidence, teamwork, creativity and problem solving skills. Along the way they were also able to familiarise themselves with the Adelaide CBD and identify free public transport.

HYPA Amazing Race participant Joel said it was an exciting and interesting event and he enjoyed the variety in all the different activities.

“It allowed us to take part in some unique experiences, such as using Fresh 92.7 radio studio to record a news report and getting to meet one of their breakfast hosts,” he said.

The Access Pay volunteers did a tremendous job engaging with their teams which was crucial in the success of the event, Simone one of the volunteers said she had a great time running around Adelaide to complete the challenges.

“It was rewarding to see their [HYPA’s] clients having such an amazing time while increasing their confidence and communication skills.

“It was also fantastic to learn more about the services HYPA provide,” she said.

A great day was had by all participants, volunteers and HYPA employees. We would like to thank the following businesses who without their support we would not have been able to hold this event; Access Pay, Fresh 92.7, The Gourmet Sausage Shop, Pushing Performance and Reading Cinemas.
