Volunteer creates hairdressing workshops for young people
23 Jan 2020
One of our amazing Volunteers, Lynette, has used her experience as a hairdressing trainer to create this great opportunity for our young people
Lynette has spent six months volunteering at Studio West as she is currently studying Youth Work and wants to gain experience. Lynette decided to take a leap to align her passion for youth work with her experience and love of hairdressing and run a four-week workshop for HYPA clients at her workplace, Parlour Hair. Five clients with a passion for hairdressing and beauty from Studio West, HYPA Housing and Eastern Adelaide Youth Homelessness Service attended the workshops – and had an absolute ball.
Olivia has just arrived for class and spoke so positively of the hairdressing workshop yesterday – she just gave me a full rundown of what she did and gushed about how good her hair smelt! Made me so happy to know how much she enjoyed it!
Program Coordinator, Alternative Learning
Students learned all about ‘knowing what works for me’, washing hair and treatments, products, blow-drying, personal presentation, listening skills and education pathways. On completion, the students were presented with a certificate of completion and provided with information on future education in the field.
