We have recently begun delivering the new Career Transition Assistance Trial. This program is an Australian Government Initiative, aimed at supporting people over 50 years into work.

SYC is one of only two Career Transition providers in South Australia. We are delivering the program in Southern Adelaide, from Marion, Christies Beach, Glenelg, Mount Barker, Goolwa and Adelaide CBD.

The first six-week training block ended last week, with promising results. Four participants have already been placed into jobs, with others feeling well prepared to continue job seeking.

“I am impressed with the course. I am picking up gaps in my knowledge and learning new things, as well as refining things I already know,” participant Brian said.

“It makes you realise you’re not alone in looking for a job. [The trainer] is very helpful and helps you remain motivated,” he said.

The service is specifically designed for job seekers who are over the age of 50 years. Delivered face-to-face in two parts, participants can choose which parts they wish to complete. The tailored career assistance part supports each person to understand current job markets, recognise their valuable skills and sum up their learning by creating an updated resume and submitting job applications.

The digital literacy component helps participants both to search for and apply for jobs online, as well as meet general workplace ability expectations.

Alan, who completed the course last week, said, “The digital course was invaluable.”

Another participant said, “The content has been pitched at a pretty basic level and that has suited me very well!”

The CTA course aims to improve employment outcomes for older Australians who are already connected with a jobactive provider. The service is flexible and takes into account individual needs and responsibilities.

We will continue to have new courses beginning regularly, with course details updated on our website: http://www.syc.net.au/focus-areas/learning/cta/
