The Holiday Season is officially upon us. The Credit Union Christmas Pageant, a proud Adelaide tradition for over 83 years signals to children and young people that Christmas is not far away.

Each year we hold a Holiday Appeal in order to raise funds and receive in-kind donations for the  6,500 young people who access HYPA’s services each year. Our goal is to ensure that each young person who accesses our services receives at least one gift this Holiday Season, something we were successful in achieving through our 2015 campaign thanks to our generous donors.

Priority is given to the young people who are experiencing homelessness, such as the young people who access our youth gateway to crisis accommodation, Trace-A-Place. Or the young people who have received transitional accommodation through our HYPA Housing program or support provided by Eastern Adelaide Youth Homelessness Services (EAYHS) to acquire supportive housing.

There are three ways you can support our Holiday Appeal:

  1. Donate to our HYPA #TwoFeet Digital Holiday Appeal and take the stress out of deciding what to purchase for a young person. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
  2. Hold a HYPA #TwoFeet Holiday Appeal Collection at your workplace. Don’t worry we have a wish list to help you and your colleagues decided what to contribute.
  3. Purchase one of our soon to be released E-Cards for a friend or family member, making a donation on their behalf to the HYPA #TwoFeet Holiday Appeal this Holiday Season

You will notice that the items we have requested range from the practical, to small indulgences such as a movie pass. Our list has been created this way to reflect the diverse range of young people HYPA supports. Alternatively you can choose to donate an amount of your choice. This money will be used to purchase an item that is not on our donation list which will significantly impact a young person’s life.

Last year, 20 year old Maylee, a client of EAYHS received a fridge for her newly acquired supportive housing property. Maylee didn’t own any belongings prior to moving into the property, relying on donations to furnish the house. Thanks to donations to our 2015 Holiday Appeal Maylee was able to choose a fridge for her new home.

“I was so happy and overwhelmed when receiving the gift. It was an essential item that helped me to settle into my home and I have been able to carry this through to the long-term property I gained a couple of months ago,” Maylee.

Maylee’s experience shows the impact your donation has on a young person is long lasting and life changing. No matter the size of your donation, it has a meaningful impact. Recipients of our Holiday Appeal are always extremely grateful and genuinely surprised that the community would show such generosity and kindness towards them. Will that generosity come from you?

Support our HYPA #TwoFeet Holiday Appeal and make a positive impact on a young person’s life this Holiday Season.

Warm regards,

Paul Edginton
