10 Indigenous job seekers secure work through Coles First Steps Program
Training Prospects’ partnership with Coles to deliver the First Steps employment program is seeing great results for Indigenous job seekers around Australia.
The pre-employment program is designed to provide job opportunities and increase retention rates for Indigenous job seekers, to engage them in the community and address the high unemployment rate, particularly in rural settings.
The most recent intake saw 10 participants from Victoria complete the three week course and all have been offered employment in Coles stores. The participants couldn’t be happier with their new roles and their new found confidence.
“The training that Training Prospects and Coles gave me has given me the confidence to work, to have confidence in myself and to go forward in my life,” participant Peter said.
The new recruits are guaranteed a minimum of 15 hours work per week along with 6 months post-placement support and mentorship.
Training Prospects trainer Judy delivers the course and is passionate about the great outcomes it achieves for participants and the transformation they experience as part of it.
“We see participants start the course, who are very shy, stand up at the graduation and speak in front of managers and dignitaries – which they would never have done before.
“We make sure the course is fun and engaging and motivates everyone about the roles. But at the same time, we run it like a workplace and all participants need to satisfy KPI’s to complete the course and get a position.
“Many participants are so excited about the opportunity because it is creating change – not only for their futures, but for their children as well,” she said.//} ?>
